New Bern’s art scene has a new arrival, and she didn’t take the ferry: handcrafted fused glass and original acrylic paintings inspired by the Carolina coast.
About that Crab
They said the trip from the coast to New Bern was impossible. They said the traffic on Highway 70 would be brutal. They didn’t count on a ten-foot red crab with leather reins.
Forget Uber. Forget the ferry. New Bern’s newest coastal artist isn’t just arriving. She’s crawling in, straight out of the surf, with extra salt.
Here’s the true part: that deep garnet-red glass with glossy black eyes crab is one of my own fused glass pieces. I made it several years ago, and it has long since been sold to a happy collector. A little AI magic gave it working legs, leather reins, and a rider in a leather jacket.
Yes, that crab is real glass. No, it doesn’t actually gallop.
Everything else is handmade: fused glass art for coastal homes and original acrylic flow paintings in the colors of the Neuse River and the Crystal Coast.

I’ve made art beside the water most of my life: a lake in Texas, a reef in the Caribbean, the Chesapeake Bay, and now the rivers and beaches of coastal North Carolina. I trained for three years under renowned glass artist Narcissus Quagliata, and I bring the same layered, fluid approach to both glass and canvas.
